In celebration of our beloved himbo Keanu Reeves on his 58th birthday, let’s revisit the absolute classic copaganda action filc — Speed. There’s a bomb on a bus, the bus will exploed if it goes below 50 miles an hour, chaos ensues. 40 years later, its still incredibly entertaining. Keanu Reeves plays a cop that gets a medal for shooting his own partner intentionally and Denis Hopper goes wild as the villainous genius madman ex-cop. It’s all fine, everything makes sense, don’t worry about it!

Are the cops bananas in this movie? Yes. 100%, no LA cop would ever resolve this situation (google LASD gangs 😘). Do we love Sandra Bullock who was basically an up & comer when she was cast, even though the role was originally written as a Black female ambulance-driver/paramedic who would have brought a lot more to the character? Yes, of course, we love Sandy. Sandy is king. Does a bus magically jumping over a 50 foot gap in the highway make any sense at all? Nope, not one bit.

So many of the stunts still look great today because they used practical effects, stunt workers and miniatures, with a few CGI enhancements and some very clever editing. Keanu Reeves performed many of his own stunts, and the movie even won two Oscars for the achievements in VFX. The cherry on top comes during the credits thanks to Billy Idol and his song Speed, written for the movie Speed 🤘🎸🔥
