Ok this movie is a RIDE, but I do not regret watching the it! The vibe is… sapphic fever dream meets Gaslight meets The Witch? Is that a vibe even?? This is a fictional story directed by Josephine Decker about real life horror author Shirley Jackson (The Lottery, The Haunting of Hill House). Elizabeth Moss is hypnotic as always, think her performance in 2018’s Her Smell, and Michael Stuhlbarg, who plays her husband, is stunningly reprehensible. Truly, this movie had me in the palm of its weird, creepy hand from the first scene, when protagonist Rose reads The Lottery and then immediately goes to her husband β€œdude, this story is so gnarly I need to fuck like right now” (heavy paraphrasing). Like I said, it’s a ride 😳
