“I’m not a psychopath”

Aubrey Plaza is perfect as the troubled Ingrid, a woman who feels a very deep, unhealthy connection to influencer Taylor Sloane (Elizabeth Olsen). When she moves to LA and inserts herself into Taylor’s life, the discrepancies between her online life and her real life become increasingly complicated to manage. Aubrey Plaza is an absolute queen, and in this movie she is right in her element.

This is director Matt Spicer’s first movie, which he wrote with David Smith. The script really comes to life thanks to the fantastic comedic relationship between Plaza and Olsen. Spicer and Smith tweaked a lot of the scenes to fit both actresses’ style, and both of them bring so much life and humanity to two people completely incapable of authenticity. The side characters are excellent contrasts to the two womens’ instagram aesthetics, especially O’Shea Jackson Jr’s performance as the unabashedly nerdy Dan Pinto. The entire experience of Ingrid Goes West is funny, scary, dark and painfully human.
